I am the mother of five, and have been happily married for 30 years. All of our kids have gone off to college and beyond, so we are now officially empty-nesters. This is a great stage of life--watching, prayerfully, the progress of our children, while keeping busy with our lives and ministry. My life verse from the Bible is, "And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent," that is, John 17:3. The joy of getting to know God more and more each day has never worn off.
A graduate of the University of Maryland in 1977, I taught special education for three years before marrying and beginning preparation for going abroad. Teaching is still very much a part of what I do, from teaching Sunday School, to Vacation Bible School, English, and Bible. Playing the guitar has always been a part of my ministry. My husband and I have had the privilege of helping to start four churches over the past 27 years. Now he is in administration, so we have the opportunity to encourage and support our coworkers in their places of ministry.
In 2007 our company directed us in some self-study, and I made some amazing discoveries about myself. After that self-study I embarked on the study of music for the first time in my life. It just about burned my brain cells at the age of 50! But it has opened up so much to me, as I am now using my violin more, aspire to play the piano for church someday, and am composing music regularly. Also, I never knew what it meant to sing correctly; that discovery through voice lessons has been most fun. Another major project that has come about since our self-study has been the successful translation and teaching of a strategy for use in Taiwan. I am grateful to God for His grace to persevere, and for the privilege of sharing His love with others.
So everyday is an adventure and a gift to be given back to God and others.
